A Household Hazardouse Waste Collection Day will be held for residents of the cities of Old Town, Milford, and Orono on June 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Old Town Recycling Center, 246 Gilman Falls Avenue.
Proof of residency is required.
The following may be disposed of at this event: adhesives, glues, resins, hobby supplies, artist supplies, oil paint, stains, thinners and strippers, car batteries, dry cell batteries, engine degreasers, brake fluids, tires, transmission fluids, waste fuels (kerosene, gasoline), insecticides, weed killers, poisons, pesticides, propane cylinders, swimming pool chemicals, wood preservatives, aerosol cans, cleaners, spot removers, computers, electronic equipment, hearing aid (button-style) batteries, Nicad batteries, photo chemicals, and chemistry sets.
The following are not allowed:Ammunition, fireworks, explosives, infectious and biological waste, prescription medicines/syringes, radioactive waste, unknown compressed gas cylinders, and latex paint.
To ensure safety never mix chemicals, never smoke while handling hazardous materials, do not place waste in plastic garbage bags, tighten caps and lids leaving material in original labeled containers, sort and pack paint, pesticides and household cleaners separately, pack containers in sturdy upright boxes and pad with newspaper, and pack your vehicle and go directly to the site.
