More than a dozen Old Town Elks test positive for COVID-19

OLD TOWN, Maine — At least 14 members of the Old Town Elks Club have tested positive for COVID-19.

The lodge shut its doors earlier this month after two members had tested positive. An additional four cases were later discovered, bringing the previous total to six.

The club recorded another eight cases as of Monday morning, according to the club’s Exalted Ruler Jeff Bosse.

The lodge will remain closed until the club is sure that members are safe, Bosse said last week.

Penobscot County had 1,309 probable and confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Dec. 13, according to data from the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Maine CDC defines an outbreak as three or more confirmed cases within two weeks in people from different households, with an epidemiologic link to a single facility or event.
