THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7

    The Holy Family Thrift Shop, Carroll Street, Old Town is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with donations welcome inside the building also at this time.

    Toddler Time 10:30 – 10:55 a.m. at the Old Town Public Library. Intended for children 1-3 years and their parents, this program includes lots of movement, songs, finger plays and books just right for this age group. Lasting approximately 20-25 minutes, the program is followed by coloring time for the children and visiting time for the parents.

    Stillwater TOPS 229 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a weekly weight loss support group for children, men and women, which meets every Thursday evening at the Stillwater Federated Church on the Bennoch Road in Stillwater. Weigh in from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and meeting from 6-7 p.m. First visit free. For more information, contact Louise Depew at 827-5786.

    Old Town TOPS 286 (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at 120 Main St., Old Town. Weigh-in is from 4:30 to 5:05 and is followed by an hour long program starting at 5:30 p.m. The goal is to inspire and encourage members to reach their own goal. For more information call Terry at 991-7023.

    Fit Over 50, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., New Balance Recreation Center, University of Maine, Hilltop Rd., Orono. In collaboration with Gateway, this class is designed for adults aged 50+ who would like to increase strength, range of mobility, balance and coordination, as well as improve overall health. All exercises can be modified to be performed from a chair. Call 581-1082 or visit the Rec Center for information. $36 for Rec Center members; otherwise $55 (GS).

   GriefShare,  an international, Christ centered, support group for anyone who has had a loss in their life. Meeting every Friday, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.  at the Old Town Methodist Church, 726 Stillwater Avenue, Old Town, Maine. All are welcome.

 

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9

    Orono Thrift Shop, operated by Orono Health Association, is open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations welcome. Proceeds benefit area health services. 10 Birch Street(behind Orono Library). 866-8688.

    The Red Sleigh Holiday Bazaar will be held at the Holy Family Church Hall, Brunswick Street, Old Town from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Homemade donuts, soups, candies, canned goods, knit items, gifts and surprises.

    There will be a baked bean supper at the Milford Congregational Church on Saturday, November 9 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The cost is $7 for adults and $2 for children under 12. Menu is homemade beans, brown bread, cole slaw, pies and biscuits,. Vegetarian beans are available and take out is also available.

    The Alton United Methodist Church will hold their monthly “all you can eat” breakfast buffet on Saturday November 9 from 7 to 9. $7 for adults, $3 for children. Serving sausage, eggs, pancakes with real maple syrup, hash browns, toast, baked beans, donuts, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and orange juice

 

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11

    Women of the World will meet on Monday, November 11 at noon, at the Church of Universal Fellowship, 82 Main Street, Orono.  The theme is “Northern Italy”. A brief presentation will follow the meal. Volunteers are needed to help set up at 11:15 am and for clean up after the meal.

    The Old Town, Orono and Surrounding Area Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday November 13 at the Old Town Elks Lodge in the downstairs room. Socializing with coffee and snacks starts about 8:30 a.m. The regular business meeting starts at 11. We will have a Thanksgiving meal catered by Steve’s Stagecoach. Members that have not signed up for the meal and want to have one, please call Ava 478-2267 before Nov. 10th. We will have Kathy and Ed singing before the meeting. All seniors 55 and over from Old Town, Orono and its surrounding areas are welcome. Come check us out and meet old and new friends.
