Elks lodge plans to reopen after COVID-19 outbreak

OLD TOWN, Maine — The Old Town Elks Lodge is planning to reopen next week following a COVID-19 outbreak that infected at least 14 members.

The lodge has been closed since Dec. 3, after discovering two positive cases among members. Within two weeks, the virus had spread to another 12 members.

As of Sunday, Dec. 20, the club hadn’t recorded any new cases, according to Exalted Ruler Jeff Bosse. The club’s house committee members and trustees plan to reopen the lodge on Dec. 27, he said.

Approximately 42 cases of COVID-19 had been reported in Old Town as of Dec. 13, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
