Old Town Elks Lodge to host Halloween Trunk or Treat

OLD TOWN, Maine — In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the Old Town Elks Club is hoping to bring back some sense of normalcy this Halloween with a socially-distanced Trunk or Treat.

Member Dottie Ehman said that Elks will be handing out candy from their vehicles, which will all be spaced six feet apart in the parking lot of their building at 37 Fourth St. The Trunk or Treat will last from 3 to 6 p.m. Halloween night.

As the pandemic continues, Maine health officials have advised against traditional Halloween activities like Trick or Treating and Trunk or Treats to prevent spreading the virus. Due to this, Ehman said the club will be enforcing social distancing and asking participants to wear their masks during the event.

In addition to candy, Elks will also hand out pencils and rulers as part of their drug awareness campaign. People who want to help hand out candy are encouraged to join, as well. Ehman said people should arrive by 1 p.m. to set up.

“We would like as many people to join to try to give these kids a nice Halloween,” she said.  “Anybody that would like to take part … are more than welcome to join us.”
