Orono Town Council passes increased budget
ORONO, Maine — Orono’s multi-million-dollar increased budget was passed unanimously by the Town Council Monday night.
The new town budget for this upcoming fiscal year includes an increase of more than $2 million in municipal spending to fund services that were previously halted by the global pandemic. But the town is projected to see a revenue increase as well, which means the overall budget is only $400,000 more than last year’s.
The town will use $40,000 to reopen the pool, which is slated to resume operation July 6. Plus, the town is funding a new shift at the fire department, which will total about $374,175.
The new budget will go into effect July 1, the start of the next fiscal year.
