
Orono-Veazie Little League splits games
The Orono-Veazie Little League baseball team in the 11/12 Maine District 3 division played the Katahdin team on Tuesday, July 6, and the Hampden team on Wednesday, July 7.
Orono/Veazie won Tuesday’s game 11-10. The winning pitcher was Caleb Tidwell with three strikeouts, two earned runs and 2.1 innings pitched. Players Richie Watson hit a single and a double, while Evan Gerbi and Sumner Stitham each had two singles, and Wyatt Chandler added a double.
Hampden won Wednesday’s game 8-1. Winning pitcher Drew McKinney allowed one earned run on two hits, with 11 strikeouts through 4.2 innings pitched. Players Nicholas Llerena and Wyatt Levesque each hit two singles. Orono pitcher Evan Gerbi had seven strikeouts, three hits and pitched 5.1 innings. Players Caleb Tidwell and Sumner Sullivan each hit singles.
Orono/Veazie’s regular season record was 9-5; playoffs were 1-1 after Wednesday’s game and All-Star Tournament, 1-2.
“This group of boys have been great to work with. Their eagerness to learn and work hard translated into a successful season of growth. I look forward to watching these boys continue to play over the next several years,” Orono/Veazie Coach Chris Bagley said.
